Each Spring, Dr. Fumagalli offers an optional class project for his EE 4367 Telecommunications Networks class. In cooperation with Makerspace & IEEE UTD, he is opening it up to all students.
- We have reached our maximum capacity of 22 teams.
- We will not have additional boards as spares.
During this hands-on project, students will get to play with TI's new wireless microcontroller: CC1310 LaunchPad. These boards use sub-1 GHz radios that allow for long range (up to 1 km) connectivity and low-power consumption perfect for "Internet of Things" applications.

- If you do not have a partner, you will be paired at Workshop #1.

- The project is divided into 3 milestones with deadlines.
- Show completion of each milestone to Dr. Fumagalli's TA, Ricardo, before each deadline.

If a team completes all 3 milestones, they will be considered for doing research in Dr. Fumagalli's Open Networking Advanced Research (OpNeAR) Lab. (Upon his judgement)
Getting Started with the CC1310
The team will use two CC1310 LaunchPad development kits to assess the wireless channel quality using the on-board antennas. The team will develop a procedure for estimating the radiation pattern of the on-board antenna using the CC1310 LaunchPad's ability to measure received signal strength indication (RSSI).

Testing Wireless Errors with the CC1310
The team will use two CC1310 LaunchPads to measure the packet error rate of the wireless channel under varying conditions. Input parameters for the experiment include the distance between the two LaunchPads, the transmitted power level and the selected bit rate (three rates will be tested).

Optimizing the CC1310 for IoT
Teams will devise and implement a procedure for the LaunchPad to autonomously determine the optimal power and transmission rate to be used. Input parameters include distance between the LaunchPads, orientation of the antennas, ground and air condition.
