Makerspace Coordinator Position Available

Levine Academy’s Makerspace seeks an individual who can work with, guide, and inspire elementary and middle school students to use their hands and mind to create and explore ideas. The Levine Makerspace involves the exploration of STEAM through the manipulation of real tools and materials, and emphasizes the creative process. The Makerspace Coordinator will be tasked with creating fun projects and problems for students to solve, and will also help to enhance the materials and opportunities as the Makerspace grows and expands.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement playful engaging, and innovative tinkering experiences for a variety of learning styles, ages, and backgrounds

  • Understand and guide student users through various stages of the design process, from idea to reality

  • Help acquire and organize materials, making sure that the Makerspace is sufficiently stocked and ready during the open hours of 11am—1:00pm.

  • Assist with on-going training for faculty members who need to be brought up to speed on the projects and tools inside the Makespace.

Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; Working towards BS/BA/AA or Masters Degree in Education, Communication, Science, Art, Museum Studies, or related field; preferred

  • Experience working with children; 1 year required

  • Basic understanding of inquiry-based or play facilitation; preferred

  • Minimum age of 21 years at time of hire

Additional Skills/Qualifications

  • Demonstrate expertise and proficiency in a variety of tinkering techniques, including, but not limited to, electronics, textiles, and/or coding

  • Strong organizational skills, high degree of initiative, able to problem solve effectively under pressure

  • Demonstrated success in student engagement and customer service

  • Passionate and committed to the project design process, and enthusiastic for the impact that an exploratory, STEM-focused Makespace can have on learners

  • Creative mindset, willingness to learn new skills and media

  • Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team environment

  • Demonstrate curiosity and passion for learning, with an excitement for new challenges

  • Energetic, dependable, and patient; enjoy working with children and adults
